World Soil Health Day was celebrated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sirugamani, Tiruchirapalli, Department of Agriculture, Tiruchirappalli in association with National Research Centre for Banana and on 05.12.2017. The function was presided over by Thiru .S.M.Uduman Mohaideen, Joint Director of Agriculture, Tiruchirappalli district. Special address Dr. S.Uma, Director, National Research Centre for Banana, stressed the importance of soil test based fertilizer application for increasing productivity. soil health cards were distributed to the farmers of Tiruchirappalli district. The soil health card specifies the data on macro and micro nutrients status of the sampled field which is valid for 3 years. Demonstration on shredder cum pulverizer for compost making, using agricultural wastes &coir pith composting were done to the farmers. Video film on mobile app was screened in the function. More than 300 farmers from Tiruchirappalli district participated.
The Agricultural Education Day was celebrated on Sunday 3rd Dec 2017 in a grand manner at Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur, Tiruchirappalli. The Programme was inaugurated and presided by Dr.R.Kavimani, Principal, Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur. Awareness was created to the students by illustrating the importance of agriculture and agricultural education in the introductory speech by Dr.M.Ravi, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Sirugamani. The programme was well organised by arranging various competitions like essay competition, drawing, quiz programme, rangoli competition. Debate on scientific farming Vs Organic farming was conducted. In this event, the students actively participated and discussed about the pros of their team. All the staff of KVK, teaching staff of Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur and 175 students participated and made the celebration grand success.
A campaign on ‘Swachhta Hi Seva” was organized by KVK, Sirugamani from September 15th to 2nd October, 2017. During the campaign various activity viz, celebration of Sewa Divas, celebration of Samagra Swatchhta Diwas , Celebration of Sarwatra Swatchhta ,Swachhta of nearby Tourist Spots and competitions were conducted for school students on cleanliness and prizes and certificates were distributed to the participants.
Mahila Kishan Diwas Programme was celebrated on 15.10.2017. In this programme Women farmers were invited and explained the importance and role played by women in the development of agriculture.
